A duplex or dual occupancy refers to a residential development where two separate dwellings are located on a single parcel of land. The dwellings may be attached (sharing a common wall) or detached, with each dwelling operating as an independent residence containing its own living facilities. Dual occupancy can be built over basement. Dual occupancy developments must comply with the relevant Local Environmental Plan (LEP), Development Control Plan (DCP), and the National Construction Code (NCC).
